Miami's oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood, Coconut Grove was settled in the 1800s by New England sailors and Bahamian immigrants, whose descendants still anchor the historic West Grove community. It grew into a bohemian, artsy enclave by the mid-1900s and remains one of Miami's leafiest, most laid-back areas.

Coconut Grove is one of Miami's most established family neighborhoods — it's zoned for well-regarded public and private schools, has some of the city's best parkland (Kennedy Park, Peacock Park, the Vizcaya grounds nearby), and its sailing clubs and youth programs are a draw for active families.
If you're used to flat grid streets, note the Grove's older, curving, tree-lined layout can make navigation and parking trickier — and its bayfront and low-lying pockets carry real flood risk, so check elevation and flood zone before buying.
